Vladimir Potanin was one of the first Russian tycoons to engage in philanthropic activities early last decade. His Charity Foundation was established in 1999 to support young students and teachers. The Foundation gives away millions of dollars in grants and scholarships. It finances the RussianOrthodoxUniversity and the commission grooming managerial staff for the national economy of Russia.
Potanin, 53, who has a $13.5 billion fortune, according to the Billionaires Index, joined Bill Gates and Warren Buffett’s Giving Pledge initiative last year to donate most of his wealth to charity.
